Goals

At present, the goal of Nordic Art Intelligence is to develop at least two digital catalogues raisonnés for the artists from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. In order to accomplish this, NAI will bring together museums, art-history faculties, foundations, experts, non-profit groups and for-profit companies in each country. NAI projects will address issues of linguistic and geographical distance by using, in addition to the relevant local language, English as a lingua franca.

In addition to initiating projects, NAI will support existing catalogues raisonnés with efforts to digitize and update their data. New research will allow well-known artists to be rexamined and recontextualized, fostering new scholarship and opportunities for further curatorial exploration. NAI aspires to modernise Nordic scholarly resources by making information easily and widely accessible online via websites and social media, as well as by contributing to scholarly articles, books, and conferences.

To summarise, the goals of NAI are to:

  • Further the understanding of the work of major visual artists by conducting art-historical research

  • Provide free, online, public access to information via an online platform

  • Foster cooperation in research, art history, cataloguing and archival practices in the Nordic region

  • Increase international recognition of Nordic visual arts

  • Use the most up-to-date technologies available
